Radiation - in every house

Today nobody will be surprised by news, that in Kiev’s markets sell the gifts of nature gathered in exclusion zone. However sale of "contaminated" berries - downright nonsense in comparison with enormous scales of plundering of other "goods" abandoned after accident on approaches to ChNPP. On these days special services of the country declared about exposure of the whole criminal group, which organized large-scale "business" on export from the "zone" of everything, for that it’s possible to gain money. Civil servants managed to help in this situation – State Security Service of Ukraine has already promised great exposures, but, as usual, has taken only executors till now.

- They kept under observation these people, and on May, 29th these people were caught on departure from prohibited area, - tells Lada Saphonova, the deputy chief of SSU (Safety service of Ukraine) press-service. - During the last sortie thieves took out the steel pipes taken from a burial on utilization of wastes contaminated by radiation. They went to one of metallic-base of Kiev’s region. When dosimeter was brought to a body of the car - the radiation background was in 30 times above normal. Each member of this grouping did his "work". One of them measured a radiation background in order that stolen did not kill thieves. The others were drivers, the third - security guards and loaders. Three person have been detained now – drivers and dosimetrists. A criminal case was brought against them on item 267 p. 1 Criminal Code «Irregularity of radiating safety mode». Punishment – up to three years of prison. Their fourth partner - the employee of one of the specialized enterprises – is on written undertaking not to leave the place. Thieves were not means of protection against radiation, and they didn’t cover cargoes with anything. They transported in the open bodies, jeopardizing by death not only themselves, but also one's people. I remember on the previous affairs, that together with a sentencing decision of court many marauders received physical invalidity.

Arrested persons have already confessed that they took out not only pipes, but also parts of cars, wood and even the caught fish. Parts were sold or scrapped, a tree was processed on underground power-saw benches, transforming in parquet and furniture. It hasn’t been known yet how many products were sold and to whom they managed to sell it. It is terrible to imagine, what can happen with owners of apartment where the floor is covered with such killing covering or stands out garniture in the bedroom, made of a Chernobyl tree. It is hardly to believe, but thieves even tried to take out the whole helicopter of Mi-8 (!) from Chernobyl in order to resell it then, under arrangement of original cafe.

It is clear, that such rough activity could not proceed imperceptibly near by officials from Chernobyl administration. SSU does not name the concrete surnames yet involved in plundering, being afraid as though they haven’t covered up traces in time. However, total verifications of all warehouses and bases where could be flown down taken out of "zone" have already begun. It would be desirable to trust, that not "pawns" will be responsible, but those who earned millions, flooding the country by the radiation contaminated materials.

A court acknowledged four habitants of the Kiev region guilty in violation of requirements of radiation safety, press-service of the General prosecution of Ukraine reports.

The workers of office of public prosecutor of the Kiev region and main administration of struggle against the organized crime and corruption of Service safety of Ukraine at the end of May in 2008 detained two habitants of Ivankiv region at an attempt to take out from the Chernobyl NPP exclusion zone of 15 t metal wares without accompanying documents for their subsequent sale as scrap-metal.

It was ascertain that the radiation dose of these wares in hundreds of one times exceeded permissible norms. The office of region public prosecutor is excite a criminal case on the signs of crime, foreseen the item of a 267-1 Criminal code of Ukraine, that in fact of violation of requirements of radiation safety at moving outside the exclusion zone of objects without the grant of statutory permission, accomplish with the purpose of their sale.

An inquest-operative group ascertain that to the accomplish crime participating of the workers of police battalion intended for guard of area of radiocontammant of GU MVD in the Kiev region. On results investigation four persons, two from which are the workers of police, a prosecution is produced.
